So say we all

Cast & creators of Battlestar Galactica appear at UN panel on human rights & race. Edward James Olmos makes impassioned and moving speech about race as a cultural determinant. Starts really getting into it. Shouts “So say we all!” - and the crowd says it right back to him.

Final Fantasy I, done in rap. It’s 10 minutes long, and pretty epic.

Think of it as 8-bit theater, only with less Hadoken, and more rap.

Wherein I stay a solid half-decade away from modern times

Filed under: — The Fool @ 6:08 pm

So I bought a PS2 (which axed a fair bit of my productivity for the holiday =\ ). Now I’m trying to work together a long-term shopping list. I find it very pleasing to be able to buy top tier games for $15 or less.

I already own: Katamari Damacy, We Love Katamary, Xenosaga I, II, and III. Final Fantasy X, X2, and XII. God of War. The Bard’s Tale. I think that’s it.

What should I get? I want to build myself a nice all-star library while PS2 games are still easy to find and super-affordable.

Already on the list:

where Don LaFontaine is DEAD, movie trailers will be a lot less interesting.

Or at least, less easy to parody.

Soul Calibur coming to XBLA.

Nice. XBLA seems to be picking up a lot of DC ports lately, which I’m totally okay with. My wishlist: Marvel vs. Capcom 2 HD, Jet Grind Radio, and Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram. With dual analog controls as god intended.

Ever wish they made a Legend of Zelda movie? Well, for one day (April 1st, of course), you were allowed to believe it. I love how they completely commit to the thing and make it like a real friggin’ trailer.

Because when you invite the cousin you actually like (say, Pluto), you have to invite his bigger siblings, too. In related news, I just got the memo that Eris is a frickin’ planet.

Steven Brust’s Firefly novel now online. “My Own Kind of Freedom,” the Firefly book Steven Brust wrote as a proposal for a tie-in Serenity novel back in 2005, has finally been released as fanfic. Really, really good fanfic.

Moe Berg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Morris “Moe” Berg (March 2, 1902, New York, New York – May 29, 1972, Belleville, New Jersey) was an American professional baseball player who later served as a spy for the Office of Strategic Services during World War II. Although he spent 15 seasons in Major League Baseball, Berg was never more than an average player, and was better known for being “the brainiest guy in baseball”[1] than for anything he accomplished in the game. The Bergs were never religiously observant, although being Jewish did contribute to Moe’s sense of being an outsider in mid-twentieth century America.[2] Casey Stengel once described Berg as “the strangest man ever to play baseball.”[3]

A graduate of Princeton University and Columbia Law School, Berg spoke several languages and regularly read 10 newspapers a day. His reputation was fueled by his successful appearances as a contestant on the radio quiz show Information, Please!. Berg answered questions about the derivation of words and names from Greek and Latin, historical events in Europe and the Far East, and ongoing international conferences.[4]

As an agent of the United States government, Berg traveled to Yugoslavia to gather intelligence on resistance groups the government was considering supporting. He was then sent on a mission to Italy, where he interviewed various physicists concerning the German nuclear program. After the war, Berg was occasionally employed by the OSS’s successor, the Central Intelligence Agency, but was unemployed by the mid-1950s. He spent the last two decades of his life without work, living with various siblings.

Do you know who Moe Berg was? He was possibly the baddest MF’er that ever lived.

Be glad I didn’t make a label for the first home video game I ever played. It was Pole Position. I went with the ’subtle’ ‘irony’ of First Life on the 2600 instead.

Stop me if you heard this one already…

Or, how to make money in a bar. Here’s a riddle you can use to fleece drunks if your local watering hole has a change machine and small round tables.

Imagine a game with a round board, and two players. One player has a stack of white chips, the other a stack of black. Players take turn laying down a chip on the board. The chips can not overlap, and can not hang off the board. The last person to lay a chip down wins.

Assuming black goes first, how can he ensure he wins every time?
Hint 1
Hint 2
Solution

UPDATE: To clarify, the ‘board’ is not a checker board with positions, it’s just a circle that you put chips on.
