Downtime

We were down for a fair bit of today. No word yet on the cause, but it should be resolved.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled doom.

For anyone who cares and doesn’t know, I haven’t been posting so much on ZoD lately, but I’ve started doing a lot of anime / other media blogging on my LJ. For some reason, in my head, my own personal ramblings I deemed LJ material, and newsbytes I deemed ZoD material. I may start shifting some content from there to here at some point, since anime-wankery is certainly legitimate ZoD material.

Anybody who wants to is welcome to read mah lj. It doesn’t have any friend-locked posts. It’s very rarely emo. It’s mostly my External Brain Dumpin ground.

Review in a run on sentence

Filed under: — The Hermit @ 8:47 pm

Ultimate Avengers was pretty good, but they might as well have just made Fury a white guy and called it The Avengers, no not that one, because they glossed over everything that made the Ultimates Utimates, like Cap being cool, and Thor hating America, and Cap insulting France, but I have a feeling that was done to make it more kid friendly, since people are going to see the same animation style as previous Marvel cartoons, and expect the same child friendliness, so all in all, I’d say a 6 out of 10, but it would be a 7 out of 10 if it was just the Avengers, it looses points for having trouble with pacing, something I’d say most origin movies suffer from, except the first Spiderman and Superman, and for having a kind of anticlimactic big battle with the aliens, but all would have been forgiven if Cap busted out with his France line.

Barfly has some info on another DC property going to TV. Looks like its aiming for the same demographic as Teen Titans was.

Big Damn Review

Filed under: — The Hierophant @ 9:39 pm

Fans of Firefly and Serenity should check out this review of Serenity from Television Without Pity.

Massive recap, so it spoils the whole movie if you haven’t seen it, but is a very nice analysis of the film.

Jim Lee

Can Jim Lee save SOE from itself?

No, don’t be stupid.

Nothing rhymes with soul-wrenching angst

Filed under: — The Hierophant @ 1:33 am

Teaser poster spotted for Spiderman 3. And it’s very, very silly.

With great power, apparently, comes great angst.

Wrong

When I said I love seing domain experts apply their craft to comics, this was not what I was talking about.

And more money gets flushed down the tubes…

Filed under: — Queen of Swords @ 1:54 pm

For those readers who may not realize this, most of us on this blog have either gone to Case Western Reserve University, or are currently studying there.

And apparently, our university is so fiscally irresponsible, that even our faculty is pissed off. Our school’s president isn’t exactly popular (except with our humor magazine, The Athenian), but I doubt these protests will go anywhere.

Schroedinger’s GOTO

Via the ever-present Slashdot, I present to you all a quantum computer with a program that does not need to run to generate an answer.

Please pick up your brian-shreds on the way out.

Dance Dance… Hitachi?

So, Hitachi apparently has a website where you can go and listen to audio files of their hard drives dying in different ways, and maybe figure out what’s wrong with yours.

They probably never expected Gizmodo to sponsor the Hard Drive Dying Dance Remix Contest. I recommend listening to the winner, the Hitachi Hard-Drive Project - Noriko Version, but I haven’t listened to the others, they may be awesome as well.

Domain expert ftw

Filed under: — The Hermit @ 12:29 am

God, I love it when a domain expert talks about their domain in comics.

As if Yahoo! didn’t already suck…

Apparently, Yahoo bans certain text strings in usernames.

I can understand banning things like “yahoo” so that no one can impersonate actual Yahoo! personnel, but anything beyond that is just censorship, especially since it blocks everything that contains the string, like the example given in the article of “theyareallaheadofme99″. Not that “theyareallaheadofme99″ isn’t a really stupid screenname, but still.

Thanks to /. for the link.

Video games. In Legos.

Ah, the things one can do with Legos. The Earth is full of so many things.

Richard Cohen has an article so stupid it made me shoot flames from my eyes and mouth.

Fortunately, PZ Myers at Pharyngula takes it apart so I don’t have to.

A Perfect Solution for Endless Joy!

Filed under: — The Hierophant @ 8:07 pm

I don’t normally do shout-outs for specific comics, but two things have compelled me to break this habit: First, I’ve had an unreasonably low post rate lately, due primarily to Eve Online; second, today’s Daily Dinosaur Comic is just too damned hilarious.

You spin me right round baby, right round

My favorite piece of irony recently:

Pete Burns sold his rights to the song You Spin Me Right Round years ago. (according to the radio, he used his money for plastic surgery.) He was on Big Brother recently, thereby reigniting interest in him and in the song. The new owners rereleased the song… and Burns doesn’t get a penny.

All proper geeks will proceed immediately to this comment thread, where Warren Ellis and Joss Whedon snark at each other while procrastinating on the writing they’re no doubt supposed to be doing.

Theme Update

After sitting on it for a while trying to sort out a few very minor issues, I’ve decided to release the newest iteration of the ZoD theme. So, behold, the return of the Search button, smaller Google ads, a slightly more sensical (in my mind) layout, and oh yea, date stamps. Remember them?

Leave any comments here, if comments ye have.

If it’s not showing up for you, it’s probably due to a stored cookie setting your preferred theme. Click here to change it to the new version.
