Behold! Episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh condensed into four minutes!

Seriously, they’re pretty fucking hilarious.

Free time is for those too weak to game.

The fall gaming flood officially begins today, with the US launches of Final Fantasy XII and Neverwinter Nights 2, both of which I intend to play until dead. Coming next week is Mass Effect, the game I bought a 360 to play (though Chromehounds has provided plenty of after-the-fact justification should Mass Effect turn out, improbably, to suck).

Around the middle of the month are the PS3 and Wii launches. This I Foretell: The PS3 will not do well at launch, and the price will drop precipitously thereafter. Only it has no strong launch games, so who cares? The Wii will be a solid seller, though not record-breaking. Its performance post-launch will be heavily influenced by word-of-mouth regarding its actual playability, and it will either sink, or go on to strong, steady sales, boosted by the launch or near-launch presence of huge franchise games (while the PS3’s biggest franchise, Final Fantasy, doesn’t have XIII lined up for years).

I will not be buying a Wii at launch, but only because FFXII, NWN2, and Mass Effect will be adequately consuming the entirety of my console gaming time.

Oh, there will be reviews. Such reviews shall there be! Though from what I’m hearing about FFXII, it’s pretty much completely great. “Pwnz”, as I believe the vernacular has it. And toying with the NWN2 toolset, it is more complex and harder to use, but also vastly more powerful. The NWN mod community is going to produce some seriously great toys with it.

This is the series where I point people at webcomics they should have been reading all along.

Today’s VG Cats rocks on toast.

This was so bad I had to post it

Nobody click on this link. I mean it. Don’t. You’ll just regret it later.

But I couldn’t resist posting it. I’m so weak.
It’s over 9000!

I’m a TOTALLY AWESOME kisser, right?

Apparently one of the thing you can do in Rockstar’s (new?) game Bully is make out with other dudes. A relevant video clip is so retarded it’s amazing. Website maybe nsfw; video clip very probably nsfw.

After the DC stamps, this was only a matter of time.Bags and Boards: Marvel stamps preview

I got a sheet of the DC stamps. They were pretty cool. We needed stamps anyway. They all went on our bills.

that took your favorite bands and compared them to other users’ to come up with recommendations? I forget what it was called. G something or other.

Anyway, I just discovered that AniDB has a similar feature. I had to add like fifty series before it would suggest anything though. And might have had to relogin or something. AniDB is not exactly polished software. Also this is different from the other thing, because instead of just listing a few things and trying to find something similar, it takes the *rankings* you give to shows, and matches based on those.

If you’re curious you can look at My Votes, which don’t exactly follow their voting guidelines, because I think some of those guidelines (namely the req. for a vote of 10) are silly.

Recommendations I’m currently looking into based on this are 12 Kingdoms and Planetes.

Bork bork bork.

It’s a shame though, the results aren’t actually in “Swedish Chef.”

They should work on that.

I don’t know why I keep expecting the not-stupid to occur, but still…I can’t believe we’re actually going to build a 700-mile wall on the Mexican border. WTF!

Ya know, that’s it. I’m going to…well I guess I’ll. Vote. But, HARDER, or something.

So, what do you call a slightly nervous baby newt? Only the best linux distribution ever. Slashdot just linked it, so you may have trouble getting there today, but it’s a really nice distribution. I’ve been using Ubuntu Dapper Drake, and dual-booting between that and Windows. More on my experiences below the cut.

Is this still interesting news? I say yes. Sure, we won’t get any custom made video games out of this one, but someone might get some jail time out of it.

Reality: Hello Shaquille O’Neal.
Shaquille O’Neal: Who the hell are you, and why are you trying to imply that I’m not a rapper, superhero, and/or kung fu master?
Is it still a comedy of errors if they replaced the funny parts with more screw ups?

The advantage of a shared subculture is that it provides a very useful language for describing things relevant to that subculture.

So when I describe the new Doctor Who spinoff series, Torchwood, as Angel meets The X-Files in Cardiff, it conveys my intent more or less exactly.

I’d say it’s worth keeping an eye on. The first ep was strong, the second was weaker, but gets a certain amount of credit for being almost certainly an Angel send-up. We’ll see how it goes from there.

Hong Kong grey-market importer of video gaming gear Lik-Sang is closing following a judgement against them in British court.

Sony sued, because Lik-Sang was importing and reselling Japanese PSPs. In light of the precedent-setting judgement by England’s High Court, Lik-Sang has evidently decided to close up shop while they’re still in a position to do refunds, rather than dealing with the now inevitable wave of company-crushing lawsuits.

In related news: Fuck Sony, and their bullshit.
