Vista DRM broken already? | The Register

Alex Ionescu said on his blog that he had written code which could be used to bypass Vista’s DRM - more details here. Ionescu has not published the code but promises in a later post to publish “some safe, generic, proof of concept code that targets what I believe is a flaw in the Code Integrity/Driver Signing model.”.

Heh. didn’t take long.

FBI turns to broad new wiretap method | CNET News.com Would this be legal if it was done with the post office? Phones? Then why would people think it’s ok to do it with ISP?
UPDATE: Justice Department replies: You’re like totally wrong and stupid and stuff.

A really good read

Wired has an almost completely uncorroborated story about the life and times of an FBI Cybercrook. It’s a really good read.

I’m pretty sure it’s a joke.

Just a minor bug

So, Xubuntu is a nice small linux distribution for systems without a terribly huge amount of hardware in them. It does have a few bugs though - James here at work was installing a laptop with it. The system clock was off by several hours because Windows stores the clock based on your timezone, not in relation to GMT, so he synchronized it - and the screen saver kicked in and his screen locked.

Turns out they didn’t disable time-checking when you do that, so he had suddenly been idle for several hours. I’m surprised it didn’t shut itself down.

Yes, please.

This is primarily so that I remember to keep track of this particular device, and buy one when it hits the market:

The first digital e-book reader I would actually buy.

Two side-by-side touch sensative digital-ink screens, long-ass battery life, and a classy leather exterior. I’m pretty much their target demographic here.

Not that it needs said, but the Oscars are a joke. I found something else that’s pretty funny while reading the Monitor Duty article.

Just so people are aware, a recent avalanche of comment spam has pushed one of our filters into being slightly trigger happy. If you post, and a comment doesn’t appear immediately, it might have gotten flagged. We don’t hate you, and now that I’m aware of the issue, I’m trying to get it sorted out.

And by “build your own”, I mean “hack a Wii remote into controlling a”, and by “killer robot”, I mean “robotic arm, sword optional”.

Carbolic Smoke Ball: BINDI IRWIN VOWS TO AVENGE HER FATHER’S DEATH, SAYS SHE WILL NOT REST UNTIL ALL STINGRAYS ARE DESTROYED

NEW YORK - Bindi Sue Irwin, the precocious child of famed “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin made the talk-show rounds yesterday and delivered a chilling message with crystal clarity. Appearing on “Live With Regis and Kelly,” Ms. Irwin said: “I wish to enlist the aid of all good-hearted people listening to the sound of my voice. If you love my father as much as I do, I ask that you help me avenge his murder by wiping every stingray from the face of the Earth! Take to the beaches with torches and spears! Destroy all stingrays!”

Link, he comes to town.

Arguably the best iteration of the series, one of The Hierophant’s Three Perfect Games[*], and all-around awesome game The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past hits the Wii Virtual Console today for 800 Wii Points ($8).

I have hours and hours of glorious memories tied up in this game. It’s pretty much brilliant.

[*] Super Metroid and Star Control II: The Ur-Quan Masters. In case you were wondering.

And that’s what actually happened.
