Classic Literature

This flash is at least six years old if memory serves, but Rhadamanthos requested it (and it’s still incrediblawesome), so…

Tales for the 1337: Romeo and Juliet

Though if you’ve never actually read or watched any version of Romeo and Juliet, you may miss some of the humor.

P.S. I WANT ALL OF UR BALLS TO DIE!!1!1

So, did you know that Google Maps gives directions to just about anywhere? Here are some directions from New York City to Ireland

Good to see that they have a sense of humor about nonsensical direction requests.

Robots that aren’t Michael Jackson

So, thankfully the Japanese are still making robots that do NOT look like Michael Jackson. They ARE however, making their Gundams even shinier, by partnering with jewelry makers and making them out of 1.4 Kg of platinum and diamonds. Here’s the official Bandai announcement, run through Google Translate.

In separate but still awesome Gundam news, you all have seen the Segato Sanjiro commercials for the Saturn, right? Well, someone took them and made stop-motion films that use Gundam models, what appear to be Gundam character figures, and other random props to the soundtracks. Have fun.

For The Hermit

Filed under: — The Knight of Cups @ 11:41 pm

Saw this yesterday: Buddy Rich vs. Animal Drum Duel, from the Muppet Show.

BTW, for those who don’t know, The Hermit is frequently sighted wearing an Animal t-shirt.

I am not making this up. Again.

Today, the world moved slightly closer to the inevitable hellish apocalypse.

In possibly related news, Michael Jackson wants to build a 50-foot robotic duplicate of himself that shoots lasers out over the Vegas desert.

Eggplant Stacks

I really like ‘Authentic Italian’ cuisine. It’s usually very light, quick, healthy and diverse. This… is not one of those recipes. This is very much an ‘Italian American’ dish, what with its cheese and tomato sauce and all that. Just like Mom used to make. Assuming you don’t put it directly over pasta, it’s also fairly low in carbs, if you’re worried about that. As an Italian American who does the low carb thing when school isn’t a lot of work and when I can cook every day, I can tell you there’s not a lot of recipes that can make this claim.

Soft Rock

Filed under: — The Hermit @ 1:17 pm

Around a month ago, I was talking to my friend who works at WRUW about these great spoof commercials for WRUW. I think I said “Those are some of the funniest things I’ve ever heard on the radio. Who made those.” “Um, that was me.” another friend told me. I was really excited, because they would make a great blog post, so I told him I needed the URL and I was going to post them.

That was a month and a half ago.

I’m timely. So yeah, here’s the links:

I’ve never read Survival of the Sickets before, but I found the blog by the author. While reading the last few posts, I ran into this post. The Truth About Crohn’s Disease Real life imitates trashy 50’s pulp sci fi. I can almost hear this guy yelling “I’ll show them! I’ll show them all!” while injecting himself.

Of course, this is the real world, so I guess we give the guy a Nobel Prize instead of searing an iron mask to his face.

I’ve never even seen the real movie, and this hurts me.

So I figure if I post it here it should cause someone to go into a frightened coma. Or at least hurt The Fool’s brain quite a bit.

I would probably read this.

(Comic) Book Reports

Filed under: — The Fool @ 3:20 am

Because obviously I have plenty of time to kill with my thesis needing to be finished in six weeks or so, I’ve been reading a bunch of comic books the last few days. Nothing hot off the presses or anything, but I figured I might as well give the run-down.

Run-down after the cut. May contain spoilers, but nothing major.

What’s it do? I don’t know! Lets talk about it!

Filed under: — The Hermit @ 6:27 pm

Adobe launches Apollo, its web application runtime for the desktop I’m a moderately intelligent guy, but I have no clue how Apollo is going to impact… anything. Is it going to be the Holy Grail of distributed computing? Maybe! Will it bring Google Calendar to my desktop? Who Knows! Will it bring us all back to the days of slim clients? Probably Not!

I’ve seen news about this product on a bunch of websites, but none of them really managed to tell me why this is such a big deal. Probably just a product of good PR, but who knows. Maybe I’m just dumb and am missing the obvious.

Comic by Comic has two rather troubling posts about the future of Veronica Mars. Why is such a good show having so much trouble? The mind boggles.

Bags and Boards: Stan Lee Media sues Marvel

In one of the more bizarre comics-related legal cases, Stan Lee Media has filed a $5 billion suit against Marvel claiming co-ownership of characters Lee co-created for the comics giant such as Hulk, X-Men and Spider-Man.

Yes, this is nearly as weird as John Fogerty suing himself for sounding too much like himself.

Trend Micro acquires HijackThis antispyware tool | CNET News.com

Trend Micro is readying a new beta version of HijackThis that works with Windows Vista and Internet Explorer 7. Other additions include an “AnalyzeThis” feature that lets users see the prevalence of threats detected on their PCs, Trend Micro said.

Trend Micro purchased this from the guy who wrote it in the first place. I hope they don’t inject crap into it.

Oh noes!
