Some Interweb Classics
Part 1 in dog dietary supplements
a series.
In my travels, I’ve collected a variety of amusing links that people should probably be aware of. They’re pretty static at this point, so I’m somewhat loathe to put them in the “links” sidebar (I have this odd conception that stuff in the links sidebar should be dynamic, at least occasionally updated sites, that people may want to visit frequently, instead of a few amusing but static sites).
So: Web pages that people should have seen the first time through, and may have missed.
They’re Made Out of Meat? - A classic vignette in speculative fiction.
The BOFH Archives - Anyone who’s ever done sysadmin work should be familiar with the classic Bastard Operator from Hell saga.
The Well-Tempered Plot Device - A old, but still applicable, article that explains everything worth knowing about bad sf.
The Malkavian Web Page - Random hilarity abounds. The website where I learned about Mao, Capture-the-Flag-with-Stuff, and the Lemon Stew Song. (Edit: It occurs to me, on actually looking over to the right, that this is in the links bar. Whoops. I blame the monkey.)
The Turkey City Lexicon - More sf-writing randomness; the jargon of sf writing workshops everywhere.
Roger Ebert’s Glossary of Movie Terms - The origin of the “fruit cart” chant; riffs on movie cliches and silliness.
More to come, from me or others.
